The Business Towers Watson Middle Market Plan Management (MPMM) & Brokerage Services is committed to helping mid-sized clients improve the performance of their benefit programs and business. We offer the expertise, tools, resources and leveraged purchasing power of a large consulting company in a model that offers the flexibility to meet specific mid-market client needs. The Role In this role you will have primary responsibility for developing and delivering on a strategy to obtain new clients of the company in the mid market space. Additionally, you will expand relationships with current mid market clients, serve as lead strategist on mid market projects, contribute to the development of intellectual capital, and promote awareness of mid market opportunities in the company and broader community.

Performance Objectives:


  • Primary accountability for creating and executing a business strategy to penetrate the local and regional market in obtaining new mid market clients of the company
  • Build relationships with internal and external sources to maximize the penetration of key target accounts
  • Meet or exceed revenue and market penetration goals Excellence

  • Serve as senior mid-market Health and Group Benefits strategist on projects

  • Raise awareness of Towers Watson’s capabilities in the marketplace through conference appearances, and various other profile building venues
  • Contribute to the development of new tools and approaches in the mid market space
  • Collaborate with colleagues to bring ‘best in class’ consulting solutions to clients Clients

  • Lead and manage multiple mid market client engagements

  • Build leveraged teams that work effectively together
  • Develop plans for execution of multi-faceted engagements
  • Ensure project managers are maintaining team progress against established budget, timeline and quality standards (while you have overall responsibility, consultant level staff typically serve as day to day project managers)
  • Establish a trusted advisor role with clients and provide consistent, superior relationship management People

  • Build relationships internally with sales and marketing team and consultants within and outside HGB to effectively collaborate on sales opportunities

  • Educate HGB and other businesses of the firm concerning our mid-market capabilities
  • Demonstrate extensive leadership ability by mentoring other consultants

The Requirements

  • Proven track record of obtaining completely new health and group benefits clients in the mid market consulting space, typically gained in a brokerage, consulting or carrier environment
  • Deep understanding of mid-sized employer market segment and their unique demands and purchasing style
  • Significant experience and success in the design/management of group health and group benefit plans gained in a consulting or brokerage environment
  • Track record of success in developing new tools and approaches to meet mid market client needs; Experience in managing multiple people and projects and producing quality deliverables on time and within budget
  • Proven ability to recognize and diagnose issues, work in teams, and leverage the resources of other related practices to address client challenges
  • Proven ability to establish relationships and work collaboratively with team members in other practices and at all levels to effectively sell and deliver on client needs
  • An executive presence with polished and well developed written and oral communication skills
  • Interest and aptitude in keeping abreast of latest developments in outsourcing appraches and contributing to the development of new tools and approaches
  • Flexibility with regard to travel that can range from 40 – 60%
  • An undergraduate degree is required; advanced degree preferred
